Welcome 2018 – The best is yet to come

Help me understand the best is yet to come…”

I can’t believe 2018 is here. It might sound silly, but I love uneven years. They are my years, usually they bring good things and I’m sad when they end.

Thinking back, 2017 was an overall positive year. I traveled a lot and I also went back to Japan. I opened this blog. I saw tons of musicals and plays, some of which I was waiting for a long time (hello Hamilton and Harry Potter). Of course, for each nice thing I could find another 10 that didn’t go as planned, but I won’t do it.

I want to focus on the good.

I usually don’t write new year’s resolutions, because I end up not doing anything and it’s super frustrating. I tend to focus on something in particular, like for example cooking more, and just go for it during the year.

In this 2018 I want to think a little bigger, thou. I want to make a list of things that I don’t necessarily consider “resolutions”, but things I want to remember. For myself, to live better, to be happy

1. Travel

First place, always. I travel every year, but I want to travel better. I want to explore new places with the eyes of the locals, I want to take time to talk to people, know them, take a little piece of them with me when I go home.

2. Be more positive

Try to look at the bright side, even at 7 in the morning when the only thing I want to do is erase humanity while I go to work. Try to answer to frustration and pettiness with a smile.

3. Take the time to be thankful

Slow down, don’t forget to say thank you to all the people crossing my path every day, from the Sainsbury’s cashier to the cab driver. Appreciate the little things, the little courtesies.

4. Put myself first

No, it doesn’t mean be selfish, it means I want to understand that I matter, too. I always tend to do the impossible for other people. I want to learn to let go of everyone who doesn’t respect me, who takes and takes from me without giving nothing in return. And I want to focus more on all the people who really loves me.

5. Write a book and why not, publish it

Something I have been working on since I was, like, 12. I wrote a lot in the past, but I was never brave enough to put myself out there and really go for it. I want to change that.

6. Learn Spanish (properly)

I have been studying in 2017, but not properly. I want to take the time to actually review, and be able to read in Spanish at the end of the year.

7. Learn something new

Study something, take a class, maybe marketing or Photoshop editing, something for the blog… keep improving myself day after day. Ideally I’d love to learn a new skill per month.

8. Be satisfied

I want to remember this list, but I don’t want to be afraid of changing it around during the year. Understand that there is nothing wrong in changing my mind, in saying no I can’t do this, but I could do that. In December 2018, look back at everything I have done in 12 months and be proud of myself (even if I find out I haven’t done anything of what I’ve just written here).

What about you? Do you have any new year’s resolutions?

“To give it all away without a fear of what’s to break…”
