Top 12 most amazing music moments in TV
I don’t know about you, but I have a mile long list of TV shows I’m currently watching or that I want to start soon.
I’ve collected here my favorite music moments taken from some of my favorite series. Have a look, you might find something you want to watch (or re-watch).
Oh, and grab your tissues.
1. Summer 41 – With me, in Gossip Girl
The famous limo scene, the one that turned the whole Blair-Chuck Bass relationship upside down. Let’s admit it, I wanted to be Blair in that limo.
2. Imogen Heap – Hallelujah, in The OC
The television death that shocked millions of teenagers. I cried my eyes out when Marissa died in Ryan’s arms. Raise your hand if you were too distraught to even go to school the day after.
3. Civil Twilight – Letters From The Sky, in Harper’s Island
Ok, this post is turning into “the saddest and most tragic moments in TV history”, and I’m not even sorry. Apparently heartbreaking moments make for amazing music footage.
Chloe and Cal’s deaths in Harper’s Island, while the breathtaking “Letters from the sky” played in the background. Sob.
4. Martha Wainwright – Bloody Mother F—king Asshole, in Big little lies
Quite recent. All the rage and the pain Jane was suffering from the sexual assault leading to Ziggy’s birth. A chilling and breathtaking episode’s ending.
5. The National – The Rains of Castamere, in Game of Thrones
Do I even have to say anything? If you watch GOT the word “wedding” will forever gives you nightmares. Grab the tissues, you’ll need them if you watch the video.
6. Skins cast singing Wild World by Cat Stevens, in Skins
Skins season finale, the first. There are a lot of other beautiful music moments in Skins, but the first one started a history.
7. Chris Colfer and Darren Criss – Come What May, in Glee
Ok. Glee is, like, a song after the other for 6 seasons. I know a lot people say it’s crap (and honestly it is, especially at the very end), but I simply have to add something from Glee to the list. This TV show will always have a special place in my heart. It’s watching Glee that I realized how much I love theater and musicals. It’s thanks to Glee that I met some of my bffs.
There are (obviously) tons of scenes I could have chosen. “I want to hold your hand” when Kurt’s dad is in a coma. “Make you feel my love”, Lea Michele’s heart breaking tribute to Cory Monteith. “Don’t stop believing”, the show’s signature…
I chose “Come what may” because I’m bias: Moulin Rouge + my favorite couple on the show, duh. I never said I wasn’t easy (also, the adorable trash-ness of this scene is everything).
8. Sarah Slean – My Invitation, in Dawson’s Creek
Pacey making clear to the world that he is the most amazing man on earth (and Joy does not deserve him). Because Pacey remembers everything.
9. Elias – Cloud, in The 100
The 100 is another show with a killer soundtrack. One of the most tragic moments is Lincoln’s death. I was very undecided between this and Reign’s version of “Knocking on heaven’s door”, when Clark decides to leave the camp, incapable of coping with having killed all the people in Mount Weather.
So I’m adding both of them to the list, ah!
10. Ingrid Michaelson – Keep Breathing, in Grey’s Anatomy
Grey’s Anatomy is an other of those tv shows that in 14 seasons offers uncountable magnificent music moments. I chose this particular one because Christina Yang will always be my favorite character. I could have picked a millions more. “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol, when Danny dies. “In my veins”, during the shooting episodes, when Doc Percey dies in Bailey’s arms…. just to mention a few.
I’m not evil and I don’t want to break your heart so I won’t carry on listing heartbreaking moments in Grey’s Anatomy. Well, that is if your heart isn’t already shattered by the time you reach this point in the list.
11. Svrcina – Battlefield, in Containment
Containment is a mini tv series that started in the most amazing way and ended up losing the spark in the end. Nevertheless, in 1 single season it offered a lot of good music. This song is amazing.
I’m adding the actual track because I can’t find a cut from the tv show with the scene in good quality.
12. Jay Reatard – Waiting for Something, in the Handmaid’s tale
Revelation of 2017. If you haven’t watched the show or read Margaret Atwood’s book, go do it right now.
The Handmaid’s Tale is chilling, haunting… every single episode leaves you heavy and terrified. But everyone should watch it.
In contrast with the dramatic story, the soundtrack is beautiful and fits perfectly to every single intense scene. There are tons of songs I’d love to mention, for example the beautiful remix of “Heart of glass”, when people protest and the army shoot them: the moment when June realizes no one is safe anymore and the world is not what she used to know.
I chose this particular scene from the ending of episode 3 because this is what shattered my heart in a thousand pieces. Alexis Bledel is amazing, she doesn’t utter a word for the whole episode. The only sound she makes is the scream she lets out the very end. I’m still shaking if I think about it.
What about you? Do you have any songs you love that was used in a particular tv show?
